The Sapiens Problem

The Sapiens Problem is the root dysfunction of Homo sapiens: evolutionarily entrenched automatisms masquerade as conscious, rational choice, directing individuals and, consequently, civilization as a whole toward primitive, egocentric, local, and short-term goals.

THE ONE NO ONE TALKS ABOUT

Historically, public discourse has focused on solving many separate crises, while the effectiveness of the measures taken has remained low for millennia. IEvoH’s analysis, however, points to a shared cause — a fundamental factor that has so far been ignored: the biologically conditioned irrationality and egocentrism of the decision-making subject itself — the human being.

We define this factor as the “Sapiens Problem”. The term refers to a system of innate behavioral algorithms that run unconsciously: the priority of egocentrism and comfort, the illusion of rationality and isolation, local short-term thinking, tribalism, dominance, defense of the self-concept, and rationalization of impulses. This root biological cause has historically conditioned the irrationality of Homo sapiens behavior. It generates personal crises and the chronic problems of civilization.

Moreover, we argue that the concept of the human being as a rational agent, without solving this problem, is inadequate and dangerous. If the cause is partly built into the choice mechanism, the solution cannot be merely moral preaching or another call to “be more reasonable”. Solving the Sapiens Problem must become a priority task of global science. What is needed is scientific, cultural, and institutional engineering of cognitive evolution.

Why it matters

Modern technologies have dramatically increased the price of this evolutionary immaturity, scaling the consequences of inner conflict from local crises to the level of existential threats. This makes further civilizational development in its current form critically unstable. The species has created a planetary civilization, but its choice mechanisms are still tuned to local gain, status, short horizons, and the perception of the isolated “I” as the absolute center of the world with priority over everything else.

Climate destabilization and species extinction, environmental pollution, wars, corruption and kleptocorruption, inequality, commercial determinants of death, and AI risks are usually discussed as separate crises and, in some cases, continue to reproduce throughout the entire history of humanity.

Ignoring the root cause condemns humanity to continue fighting symptoms that are becoming increasingly dangerous and global.

Mechanism

The brain is not a single rational agent. The neocortex can analyze, but ancient drives often set the impulse, and consciousness then explains it as a rational decision.

Effect

The data are known and solutions often exist, yet the course barely changes: institutions degrade, science is ignored or instrumentalized, and private gain defeats the interest of the whole.

Price of error

Modern technologies have amplified the scale of consequences: local biological immaturity has become a source of existential risks for the whole civilization.

Solution

IEvoH proposes to study SP, develop Prosvet as a non-esoteric transformation program, and create the Homo Neos environment where clarity and prosociality become the winning strategy.

Status

This is a working research framework, open to criticism, scientific verification, and joint refinement. The goal is to move from fighting symptoms to working with the cause.
